Lacie Rugged Harddrive on OSX 10.4

Is it possible to mount a lacie rugged drive on a powerbook g4 running OSX 10.4? It's not showing up in disk utility, but everything mounts fine on my imac running 10.7

Is this using FireWire or USB?

My (ancient) Rugged Drive needs external power on USB.

USB. But the laptop is plugged in.

Are you sure the USB port has enough power?

As I said my old LaCie needs to use its own mains adapter on USB but will run without it on FireWire.
